WHO’s Hinari program expands access to health research
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that its Hinari access-to-research program has significantly increased the number of health science articles published as well as clinical trial participation in low- and middle-income countries. A study by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) found that research institutions joining Hinari saw up to a 75% increase in the number of health science articles published and a 20% rise in international clinical trial involvement, with some regions reporting even higher growth.
This program, part of the WHO’s Research4Life initiative, helps non-profit institutions to access a wide range of health journals and resources, thereby bridging global knowledge gaps. The program's reach extends to areas such as AI-driven healthcare, clinical practices, and health policy improvements worldwide. The WHO aims to expand Hinari’s availability, further supporting scientific progress and health outcomes in communities with limited research access.
