Japan’s university standings in Asia announced for 2024
The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024 have been released, showcasing the progress of Asian universities in global higher education. Notable among the rankings are The University of Tokyo (whose position rose from 8th to 5th), The University of Kyoto (from 18th to 13th), and The University of Tohoku (from 34th to 20th).
All three institutions have significantly improved their scores in the “research quality pillar” (formerly the “citation pillar”). This pillar, which has been updated as part of THE's revised methodology for 2024, now includes measures such as research strength, research excellence, and research influence, providing a more comprehensive assessment of research quality.
In addition, changes in the “industry pillar” metrics have been observed, reflecting the universities' collaborative efforts with industry partners.
