STM publishes recommendations for medical and health science data sharing
The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) has published new voluntary recommendations to help publishers and journals provide clearer information about data sharing requirements for medical and health science research. The guidance addresses challenges that are particularly important in these fields, including participant privacy, regulatory requirements, and ethical considerations.
The recommendations cover topics including data definitions, exceptions to data sharing requirements, embargoes, repositories, data availability statements, licensing, and the FAIR Data Principles. Developed with input from publishers, pharmaceutical industry experts, and other data policy specialists, the guidance includes examples of best practices from medical journals and is available for publishers to use freely.
