COPE issues the “Ethics toolkit for a successful editorial office”
Journal editors and editorial office personnel have many important roles and responsibilities that ensure the smooth running of high-quality scholarly journals. The Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE) has just released an ethics toolkit to help academic societies and journal editors to establish a new journal or to review and update their existing codes of ethical conduct and practice. It can also be helpful to journals who want to apply to be a member of COPE.
The toolkit provides a number of resources and explains the ethical practices expected in scholarly publishing. The four main sections cover how to develop guidelines for authors and for reviewers, how to develop processes to identify ethical concerns, and how to develop guidelines to respond quickly to suspected ethics violations by authors, reviewers, and journal editors.
The “Ethics toolkit for a successful editorial office” can be downloaded in PDF format.
